Happy Anniversary Know More Media! (How I Discovered Newsvine)

advertisement

Today is Know More Media's first anniversary. Let me tell you I had my doubts when I was offered the job working for the small start-up but I took a leap of faith, much like the founders did when they started the company. I quickly discovered that not only was embarking on an adventure in new media but I absolutely LOVE my job. What person that claims to be a media junkie, journalist and culture critic wouldn't love the opportunity to consume information on a daily basis and dialogue with others who do the same?

Since I began working for Know More Media in August, the network's readership has increased exponentially and most recently, launched a new user-powered site for business news/information called BIZZbites.

What have I learned in the last five months? It takes extreme bravery, vision, and drive to build a successful organization – especially based on a new idea. It takes strong leaders who are passionate about providing quality goods or services, and a team willing to work their asses off because they feel invested in the company's mission.

It was in my work for Know More Media that I discovered Newsvine, which is not just news site but a community of smart people with varying personalities and opinions, also embarking on an adventure in new media and citizen journalism. Through our seeding, commenting, writing, arguing, and debating, we learn as much as we try to teach, and participate in the development of a new medium for distribution of information. We also get to flex our intellect; thus for all of the debate, Newsvine does exactly what it is supposed to…and I'm getting smarter by the second, how about you?
