As some of you know I watch the bachelor. I came out last season. It's all so over the top, the girls, the "romance" and the giving of roses, it has a way of just sucking me in; and I'm okay with that…For now at least…
What intrigues me most about the show is how emotional these people get on a live in reality TV show that pits women against each other in a competition…for "love." As if the show is actually about finding love rather than just finding a winner. As the show goes on and more and more women go home, things always get more serious. There's always someone who is overly competitive, but in general they all profess to be falling in love with a man they have to share with the other women in the house.
Last night the show seemed especially serious. All of the women were hating on Robyn who apparently was under the impression that the show was a competition; go figure. Several times during the course of the episode, the Bachelor Matt Grant (and English gentleman) made a point to tell the women that he was there to find a wife and that each and every decision to cut someone was a difficult one.
Perhaps the most shocking moment of the night was when Marshana returned from her two on one date with Matt and Holly. All of the others seemed super surprised, but I could tell he was not all that interested in the other girl. Personally, I was not surprised at all since Matt continues to appear interested in Marshana while his interest is Holly was always questionable. If he is in fact there to find a wife, it's a good idea to spend more time with someone you think could potentially be a mate.
With only a few more women from whom to choose, it's getting down to the wire and emotions are running high. It will be interesting to see who wins. I'm sure the producers are hoping that Matt doesn't cop-out the same way that Brad did on the last season and not pick anyone. That would be pretty funny.

It's funny, in a time when we would think arranged marriages are barbaric, women will got on a reality show and "sell their soul" to marry some guy they just met. What an interesting culture we live in. Thanks for the review.
Then it's what women will do for fame in the name of "love?"
Sounds like they are naive.
Speaking of fame. Congrats I saw that your article made it on MSNBC.
I have a real problem with shows of this nature. Does this one also go on phone votes? To imagine having the people of a country voting on whether or not a, and who a person should marry. The mind boggles.
Oh, ok. With more and more reality shows are we putting actors out of work? It's like the audience becomes the show without ever being in the spotlight or gaining from the experience. Who is gaining the dollars in this event do you think?

You mention that the bachelors and the winner of the competition do not usually stay together. Somehow this doesn't surprise me at all. I do find it interesting that now we can reduce finding true love to lining up a bunch of beautiful (as accepted according to social norms) girls and seeing which one can survive all of the drama.
The Bachelor smacks of high school.
HAHA! Yes quite disgusting, but also quite sad. Perhaps the dates should be to dances in rec halls with hundreds of teens groping each other, just to set the mood. :) (Ooops.. I'm still a teenager.. damn that last year before twenty!!)
There was a show on here a in 2004 called "Outback Jack", which was similar in format to The Bachelor, I think but set in the Australian outback. The bachelor and his new wife, Natalie who won the game, had a baby last year. So I guess some of these shows end up happy, even though the circumstances are orchestrated to the max.
BTW, that's a strange site eh? Celebrity Baby Blog!
Hey Kymlee, I don't have anything to add since I've never watched the show and have no interest in doing so, but this is up on the MSNBC.com Entertainment page so I clicked through. Gotta love those pageview spikes ;)
Tee hee.
